"mazda616" (mazda616)

There are several cars that I write off as hopelessly ugly when they are first released. Then, as time goes on, I find myself hating them less and less until I like them enough to own one, theoretically.
The main contender here for me is the new Jeep Cherokee. Those headlights were gag-worthy to me when I first saw them, but now I don't mind them so much. I'd own a Cherokee, depending on Chrysler's current product quality. But only a Trailhawk model. I love those wheels.
What about you folks? Any cars you thought were beat with the ugly stick but later come to like?

The problem is you can never play practical jokes on this car, because it will always see what you did there.

I've grown to like the KL cherokee, but early reports of their reliability aren't great. Give them a few years and it will be worth buying.

FJ Cruiser. When it first came out, I wasn't sure if it was cool and retro, or just ugly. I'm still not entirely sure that it's not ugly, but they're pretty cool SUV's anyway.

Exactly my response. I LOATHED the Cherokee, but after seeing quite a lot of the limited ones on the road I didnt hate it as much. Then, the Trailhawk arrived at the dealership, and it got me thinking it was so ugly its cool.

They are too big IMO. The old FJ40 wasn't super small but that were a lot smaller than the FJ Cruiser. Actually after seeing a couple side by side pics, maybe it just looks to big cuz of the proportions. Like a short chubby girl.

Just remember that cars never look the same in photos as they do in real life. I've come to the hypothesis that it has to do with seeing the car moving in a 3D space, such as driving by you. As it shifts and rotates relative to you, even just a little bit, the brain builds a better understanding of the car's overall shape and proportions than it can glean from just a flat photograph.

This car was shaped with the ugly stick, never mind beaten with it....

When it first came out, I thought the 5th gen Prelude...
Was a big step down in the looks department from its predecessor:
I still prefer the 4th gen, but the 5th gen is alright too.

Meanwhile, disgusted at the joke, the Cherokee's older brother practices its "EEEUUUUGGGGHHHH" face.

The Cherokee was one for me. Another one was the Audi Q7, and the new S-Class.

That's exactly how I felt about the Cherokee, especially the Trailhawk. At first, I thought it was ugly as sin. Then I saw the red one. Complete change of heart.
